The Hong Kong United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Association Glocal Peace Center held the “Future of Education” forum on August 25, 2024, at the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Financial Hall. The theme was “Family Education and Legacy.” The forum invited several distinguished guests, including Ronnie Chan, Honorary Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Limited, and Professor John Lee, President of the Education University of Hong Kong, to discuss the practice of family education and legacy in Hong Kong. Centaline Family Office was also one of the sponsors of this event, and our General Manager, Kelly, served as the moderator for one of the panel discussions.

Ronnie Chan emphasized in the forum that the sustainable development of family businesses faces challenges and suggested donating wealth to society to promote philanthropy. He pointed out that the legacy of family businesses is not only about the transfer of wealth but more importantly about the transmission of values and culture. Professor John Lee noted that family education is closely related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and suggested that families and schools should jointly promote environmental awareness, emphasizing that education is not only about academic achievements but also includes environmental protection and social responsibility.

Additionally, the forum released a survey on the perspectives of family education among young people in Hong Kong. The results showed that nearly 70% of families focus more on academic performance and exam results, neglecting the education of values and character. This result sparked extensive discussion among the participants, who unanimously agreed that more emphasis should be placed on the cultivation of values and character in family education.

Overall, the forum not only promoted cross-sectoral exchanges but also provided valuable suggestions for the reform and improvement of family education. Through such a platform, all sectors of society can work together to create a better educational environment and future for the next generation.
